Just Returned from Artist in Residence at The Ocean House Resort in Watch Hill Rhode Island.

I arrived on Thursday afternoon  and  the weekend outlook was fantastic, hot and humid.  I checked in and met my lovely contact person,  and explained my duties  and what was expected of me.

I was expected to paint on the grounds and interact with the guests.  Everything worked out perfectly.
On Friday morning I started painting at 7am.  It was hot.  I finished a 10x18 panel by 12 noon.

I managed to tape one of the umbrellas on the beach post and was very secure to withstand any wind gusts.
On Friday evening the hotel hosted a wine and cheese reception that was attended by some guests of the hotel as well as some local residents.  It was a wonderful time.  My wife joined me on Friday along with my standard poodle Lacey. She had a great time.

In the end, I met some wonderful people and great food, and future sales.
I did sell this one at the end of the day.  10x18 oil on panel.
Painting time, 4 hours.

I Have been Invited to paint  on the grounds of the Majestic resort of the Ocean House at Watch Hill Rhode Island.  I will be their  artist in residence on June 21 to June 25.  There will also be paintings on view in the lovely renovated lobby.  The timeless beauty of this massive ocean resort is so beautiful and

Please feel free to stop by and stroll the grounds while I am there and find me painting somewhere.
Look forward to seeing you.

This majestic victorian style hotel originally opened in 1868 and catered to the era's high society that offered croquet on the lawn, bathing and sailing and afternoon tea. The renovation to restore the hotel to it's original state cost more than $150M.http://www.oceanhouseri.com/index-alt.php

Plein Aire Study

Plein Aire Study   World's End   "A Winter's Glow"    10x18  oil on board

" On a not so cold winter's morning I set out to capture the winter's first dusting.  I decided to venture  in the early afternoon light, to one of my favorite places of inspiration.
I had to work fast because I knew that I would loose the light soon.  The temperature was going down  but I was comfortable with my layers of clothing, but my nose was running
and beginning to freeze.  After 3.5 hours of painting I was rewarded with this " Winter's Glow "  10 x 18 inches.   oil on board.  with black gilded frame w/t gold liner.

Above, is the larger version created in my studio from the study.  24x36  oil on canvas.
Appearing in the March issue of Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine.

Please visit the past post archive for my upcoming workshop.

"Plein Air Workshop" At the Duxbury Art Association Thursday & Friday June 7 & 8

Plein Air Workshop With Sergio Roffo
Paint with ASMA“Fellow” Sergio Roffo along our stunning coastlal landscape, Alla Prima approach.

Please Join me for an exciting 2 day workshop in Duxbury Ma. at the Duxbury Art Association.

Sergio will focus on the techniques and principles of Plein air painting of coastal marine landscapes. Sergio Roffo is an elected “Fellow” of the American Society of marine Artists, a member of the Guild of Boston artists', and a Copley Master at the Copley Society of Boston.
Mr. Roffo has won countless national awards and is widely collected.

Each morning will begin with Sergio discussing the aesthetic issues and
techniques of art as he demonstrates and completes a field study, encouraging the fellow artists to observe. “ Sometimes you learn more by observing and memorizing than actually painting. While I strongly
encourage the students to observe my demonstration, they will have to option to paint along side of me.” After the demonstration students will receive individual personal instruction and encouragement while completing their painting “Alla Prima” (in one sitting).
The objective of this two day coarse is to sensitize the class to the aspects of outdoor painting, including:

* Learning how to see nature’s details
* Understanding the interplay of light and shadow
* Knowing how to mix the right colors
* Eliminating the fear of outdoor painting
Material List will be available
Open to All Levels in Oils Only.
